About CoverEdge

The covered call and cash-secured put platform that began as one options seller’s spreadsheet — and grew into the income-tracking tool he wished he’d had.

What CoverEdge is

Our story

CoverEdge started in 2025 as one person’s spreadsheet. Founder Philip Picciotti had learned to sell options from a retired broker and was running covered calls and cash-secured puts on his own account. Every week he’d sit down and update a sprawling spreadsheet — positions, premium collected, fees, rolls — just to answer one question: what does this stock actually cost me, net, after everything I’ve sold against it?

He was spending more time maintaining the spreadsheet than finding good trades. So he built the tool he wished existed — a platform where every premium, close, roll, and assignment is recorded as an immutable ledger entry, and every number you see — positions, P&L, annualized return, true net cost basis — is derived from that ledger. Nothing is fudged, nothing is lost in a roll.

What began as a personal tool kept growing. The more he built, the more he realized how much could live in one place instead of being scattered across a dozen tabs and sites. CoverEdge was built for an audience of one — and then opened up to every retail options seller who’d rather run their strategy than babysit a spreadsheet.

Philip is a U.S. Navy veteran — who has held Top Secret / SCI clearance — and a 20-plus-year cybersecurity leader holding the CISSP, CEH, and CHFI certifications. His career spans threat & vulnerability management, penetration testing, and application security, including roles at Optiv, Office Depot, and the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, plus earlier CIO and CEO leadership. He also writes the code.

Philip started his career out of college as a programmer, and never really stopped. Over the years he’s written applications to automate the work he and his teams were responsible for — plus countless tools for his wife’s jobs, companies, and ventures. He began with relational database design and web applications at the dawn of the Internet in FoxPro, moved heavily into Python, then Node.js, with C++ and Swift along the way. That depth is also a big part of what made him strong in application security: once you understand how languages work — and at their core they’re remarkably similar — you understand how software actually breaks. CoverEdge is the product of both halves of that career: an options seller’s strategy and an engineer’s hands on the keyboard.

That background is the reason CoverEdge treats your financial data the way it does. After a career spent breaking into systems to make them safer, protecting sensitive data isn’t a checkbox — it’s instinct. CoverEdge is built and operated in the USA, engineered security-first by someone who has spent decades on the defensive side of the table.

He’s also spent the last few years deep in applied AI — using it across business operations and for image editing and digital artwork. He’s always been drawn to cutting-edge tech, so folding AI into CoverEdge was a natural fit: it’s what turns dense options technicals into plain English, weighs them against your current positions, and factors in real-time market news — so the platform hands you guidance you can act on, not just raw numbers.

What we believe

  • The ledger is the single source of truth

Every financial figure in CoverEdge is derived from immutable ledger entries — never from mutable snapshots that drift over time. Your numbers are always consistent and traceable back to the dollar.

  • Auditability over convenience

We prefer explicit, traceable operations over shortcuts. A roll is a close plus an open, recorded as such — so your roll chains and cost basis survive scrutiny months later.

  • Your data is yours

Export your ledger anytime, connect or disconnect your brokerage with one click, and request full deletion whenever you want. No ad tracking, no data selling.

  • Income strategies deserve real tooling

Premium selling is a discipline, not a hobby. CoverEdge treats covered calls, cash-secured puts, the wheel, and PMCC as first-class strategies with the metrics and guidance to run them well.
